Both greed and giving have an impact on society. While greed almost always has a negative impact on society, giving almost always has a positive impact. Unfortunately, I think that greed has a larger impact then giving because it affects our society in a negative way. People always seem to want more and more and often forget that it is more important to give then to receive. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary tells us that greed is an “acquisitive or selfish desire beyond reason”.
Greed does not discriminate. All people can be greedy in some way or another. For example, a wealthy person can be greedy with their money and refuse to give to the poor. On the other hand, a wealthy person can give to the poor but the poor, can be greedy with the gift and not share with each other. Either way, greed can lead to unkind behavior no matter how much people have or do not have.
People can also be greedy with things other then money or objects. People can be greedy with their time and become so busy that they miss out on spending time with the people that they care about. These people are being greedy to themselves and others.
When people are selfish and greedy they tend to be self-centered and only care about themselves. Greedy people can also become competitive with each other and eventually lead to unkindness. In the end, this has a negative impact on society.
